And here we are at the end of another long but rewarding month... This month has been extremely busy for me trying to juggle work, school and MCAT preparation and trying to squeeze a little bit of volunteering in there. I have begun tutoring for refugee children, teaching them Maths and English so they can catch up in school but honestly the children I have been tutoring have made huge strides in the right direction and I cannot be any more proud of them. I have been able to do 4 sessions for an hour each every weekend with the Vibha NPO, who I had previously been volunteering with last year. I decided to join back as I understand what it feels like to move to another country with the daunting feeling of not understanding the school system. At the start of this month, I realized that this tutoring program is what I am truly passionate about and I will be continuing on this path for the future for as long as I can. Fortunately, I will be beginning to volunteer at the LCMC this month as I believe I have some more time as we have Mardi Gras week and some free time on top of that so I am looking forward to volunteering in the hospital to aid families with children who have just had major surgery.
This month, we have been through two modules in Endocrine and Neurology. Both of these modules have been quite expansive and I believe that they have been the most interesting modules so far from diabetes and insulin taught by Dr Katakam to Neurobiology taught by Dr Mostany. I am excited to go through the next month and looking forward to learning the psychopharmacology module.
