April Hours

Total Hours: 25 April Hours: 6          And just like that the semester is over and so is the program. This month I kept to volunteering for the refugees from Vibha which I have mentioned in previous posts. They have their pre-SAT coming up so I decided to devote a few extra hours for prep in order for them to be fully ready for it.      This semester has been a whirlwind to say the least. It was challenging but extremely rewarding and will feel even better when I walk across the stage in the next few weeks with a Master's degree! This month we had our final exam for the Masters which went well and also our last exam in Cell control which was great in preparation for my MCAT which is also fast approaching. This semester I enjoyed learning the different therapeutic drugs but also enjoyed Cell Control which allowed us to meet different professors and them talking about their passion and educating us on their niche speciality which I hope will ...

During the Mardi Gras break, I travelled over to Texas to see my girlfriend. With her, I completed some volunteering hours. For 5 hours on a random Saturday we decided to volunteer at Pet Circle, which is a no-kill dog shelter. We also decided to take a do...

February Hours

Total Hours: 4 Hours       February Hours: 4 Hours      And here we are at the end of another long but rewarding month... This month has been extremely busy for me trying to juggle work, school and MCAT preparation and trying to squeeze a little bit of volunteering in there. I have begun tutoring for refugee children, teaching them Maths and English so they can catch up in school but honestly the children I have been tutoring have made huge strides in the right direction and I cannot be any more proud of them. I have been able to do 4 sessions for an hour each every weekend with the Vibha NPO, who I had previously been volunteering with last year. I decided to join back as I understand what it feels like to move to another country with the daunting feeling of not understanding the school system. At the start of this month, I realized that this tutoring program is what I am truly passionate about and I will be continuing on this pa...

January Hours

January Hours: 0 Total Spring Hours: 0     This semester so far has been hard work but has been rewarding for sure even though we are only 2 weeks in! We started the semester off with learning about the reproduction module, which I personally have little knowledge about. This was good for me as it allowed me to learn a lot about pharmacologic techniques used for the system. After this module, we moved onto the endocrine module, which we are currently going through and I am a lot more familiar with this and I am enjoying it a lot so far. I believe my favorite part of the semester so far was learning about the estrogen receptors and all of the different ways that drugs are being developed for people's health.  I have not been able to complete any volunteering this month as of yet, but I am planning on volunteering at the children's hospital, particularly in the cardiology department so I am looking forward to doing that as it will be super rewarding for me. I look forward t...

November Blog

November Volunteering Hours: 6 Hours  Total Hours: 14 Hours      This month was quite an eventful month for me. I was invited to an event which was held for some of the children who I have been tutoring through the Vibha community, as I have been talking about in my past few months. As a token of appreciation, I was able to speak to the wider public about the values and mission of the volunteering tutoring we provide. I did this event alongside my normal tutoring and it was truly fulfilling meeting the children that I have been tutoring in real life. It was also a true learning experience as I was able to showcase my vocational and advocacy skills to the public too in front of a large crowd. As for the rest of my hours, I was still able to complete my normal tutoring hours weekly, for the month. For my future plans, I am still planning on volunteering in the children's hospital but as I have had quite a busy month, I am planning on starting in December as I woul...

October Blog

Volunteering Hours 4 Hours  Total Hours: 8 Hours October has been a fulfilling month of volunteering, focused on supporting two high school children in challenging circumstances. I dedicated a further four hours to tutoring then through Vibha, an organization committed to improving education access for underserved communities. During four lessons, I worked one-on-one with the two students helping them build confidence in both English and Math, Witnessing their determination always inspires me to work harder in my own classes as a Pharmacology student. I feel privileged to play a small part in their journey towards academic success. Looking ahead, I am thrilled to be in the process of joining LCMC's paediatric cardiac volunteer program, where I will have the opportunity to support children navigating heart-related health challenges. Being a part of their experience, even in a small ways aligns with my aspirations in cardiology and my commitment to healthcare. Volunteering has always...

Volunteer Hours Completed - 4 hours My volunteering Journey with Vibha NPO Over the past few months, I had the incredible opportunity to volunteer with Vibha, a non-profit organization committed to empowering underprivileged children. My role was rewarding as I served as a tutor for two children from Bhutan, who had arrived as refugees. The experience was not only about teaching English and Math, but also about providing companionship and emotional support to these young minds in a new life. From the beginning, I focused on creating a safe and supportive environment for these children. At our weekly sessions, I could see their confidence grow as they became more comfortable with the subjects we were working on, especially Math and. I designed a personalized learning plan made for individual needs, ensuring that our time together was focused on improving their academic performance. It was rewarding to witness their progress, not only academically but also in their confidence to tackle t...
